Tata Steel Sculpture Competition (March – May 28th 2021)
28th March - 28th May
Art Competition – Steel Sculpture in a Garden Setting
The purpose of the competition is to commission a Sculpture in a Garden Setting that appropriately and respectfully celebrates the first 125 years of Shotton Steelworks and embraces the excitement around its future.
This is an exciting Art Competition and commission organised and administered by Tata Steel Shotton Works and Coleg Cambria: open to Coleg Cambria students.
This competition is seeking an outstanding creative proposal for a Sculpture in a Garden Setting. The winning proposal will stand as a permanent feature within Tata Steel’s Shotton Steelworks grounds and will be the focal point for their 125th anniversary celebrations in September 2021.
The sculpture may be a stand-alone installation or a sculpture group. It will be built in Coleg Cambria workshops using steel as the main material.
The winning applicant will be awarded £1000, be invited to participate in the unveiling on the site Anniversary day and be featured on Tata Steel, Coleg Cambria and external communications.
Applicants will be assisted and guided throughout, from an initial project overview from TATA, input from professional artist(s) and advice from inhouse fabrication & welding experts on what can and can’t be done with steel sculptures.
The timeline will be from March to end of May, with the sculpture being created over the summer in preparation for unveiling at Tata’s celebrations, end of September.
