Coleg Cambria is dedicated to becoming a sustainable, low-carbon leader. We aim to fundamentally change how we operate to protect our environment and prepare you for a green professional future.

At Coleg Cambria, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, and we need your help to make a lasting impact. Whether it’s tackling big issues like climate change or making small, everyday changes, you can play a vital role in helping us create a greener future across all our sites.

Small habits lead to big changes. We aim for a 3% annual carbon reduction, and you can help us get there:

  • Switch Off: Use natural light when possible and turn off lights when leaving a room.

  • Unplug: Turn off electronics at the wall to stop “phantom” power drain.

  • Heat Wisely: Keep thermostats at 18°C. If you are the last to leave, turn them to 0.

  • Think Before Printing: Only print if essential and always use double-sided settings.

Did you know? All our new buildings are BREEAM-rated “Excellent,” featuring solar panels, LED sensor lighting, and smart heat pumps.

In line with Welsh Government regulations, we are maximising recycling and minimising landfill.

1. Reduce & Reuse

  • Canteen Perks: Ask for a ceramic plate and metal cutlery. Use your own reusable cup and lunchbox for a discount.

  • Creative Reuse: We repurpose shredded paper and wood shavings from our workshops as bedding for Northop campus animals!

2. Recycle

You must separate your waste into the designated bins found around campus:

  • Food & Liquids (Keep these out of the sewers!)

  • Paper & Card

  • Plastic, Metal & Cartons

  • Glass, Electricals & Textiles

Top Tip: Check the labels! Only put clean items in recycling; dirty items go in Non-Recyclable waste.

We encourage greener ways to get to college. Facilities available to you include:

  • Cycling: Secure shelters, showers, and lockers.

  • Car Sharing: Join the Liftshare initiative to save money and emissions – contact sustainability@cambria.ac.uk to join.

  • Public Transport: Use college coaches or local bus/rail links.

  • Electric Vehicles: Access charging via the ClenergyEV app (register with your college email).

We manage our grounds to help wildlife thrive. Our goals include:

  • Tree Planting: We plant over 500 trees annually.

  • Wildflower Areas: Protecting habitats for bees and other pollinators.

  • How to help: Stay on paths, respect wildlife habitats, and get involved in college biodiversity projects- contact sustainability@cambria.ac.uk to volunteer.

To reduce our footprint and improve efficiency, Cambria is a Digital First college.

  • Tools: Use Google Drive, Classroom, and Gmail for all assignments and communication.

  • Forms: Submit requests via Google Forms rather than paper.

  • Support: If you need help using these digital tools, visit the Library for a quick training session.
